i am a research associate in plenio's group at ulm university and was a research associate at the institute for mathematical sciences at imperial college london. I did my phd in the quantum optics group at the university of potsdam and studied physics at philipps university in marburg and the optical sciences center in tucson, arizona. research-wise i am mainly interested in quantum many-body systems and their fundamental equilibrium and dynamical properties.

i have worked on entanglement scaling in critical and non-critical systems,

  • area laws for the entanglement entropy -- a review,
    rmp 82, 277 (2010), arxiv:0808.3773,

on dynamical properties, including relaxation after a sudden quench (lieb-robinson bounds, quantum central limit theorems),

  • exploring local quantum many-body relaxation by atoms in optical superlattices,
    prl 101, 063001 (2008), arxiv:0805.0798,
  • exact relaxation in a class of nonequilibrium quantum lattice systems,
    prl 100, 030602 (2008), arxiv:cond-mat/0703314,
  • locality of dynamics in general harmonic quantum systems,
in "quantum information and many body quantum systems" (edizioni della normale, pisa 2008), arxiv:0803.0890,

on ground and thermal states of ultracold atoms in optical lattices (superfluid - mott insulator transitions, adiabatic heating and cooling), in particular mixtures of fermionic and bosonic atoms,

  • do mixtures of bosonic and fermionic atoms adiabatically heat up in optical lattices?
    prl 100, 140409 (2008), arxiv:0707.3633,
  • inhomogeneous atomic bose-fermi mixtures in cubic lattices,
    prl 93, 190405 (2004), arxiv:cond-mat/0310705,

and became recently interested in quantum state tomography (compressed sensing, singular value thresholding),
